The Trump Administration & ICE
We live in truly unprecedented and terrifying times. Growing up, I never thought “It could happen here.” And yet, it is happening. We now have a president and an administration actively dismantling our democracy. A president that not only attacks, but attempts to silence those that dare speak against him. He has turned ICE into his own personal brigade of brownshirts, a blunt weapon he uses against those he feels have wronged him because they refuse to be silent while he terrorizes states that refused to vote for him. We cannot stand idly by as Trump and his administration of cronies flagrantly violate the Constitution while blatantly ignoring court orders demanding that they stop.
The Threat We Face
Democracy does not disappear overnight. It is eroded—piece by piece—when leaders place themselves above the law, undermine independent institutions, and punish dissent. The Trump administration has repeatedly shown contempt for constitutional limits, democratic norms, and the rule of law. This is not politics as usual. It is an attempted fascist takeover that must be confronted directly.
Unconstitutional Attacks on Our Democracy
The Trump administration has engaged in a sustained pattern of conduct that violates both the spirit and the letter of the Constitution:
Attacks on Free Speech and a Free Press: Using the power of the presidency to threaten journalists, media outlets, whistleblowers, and political opponents for exercising their First Amendment rights.
Weaponization of Federal Agencies: Pressuring and politicizing the Department of Justice and federal law enforcement to target perceived enemies and shield allies.
Defiance of Court Orders: Ignoring or slow-walking compliance with lawful court rulings, undermining the separation of powers that is central to our constitutional system.
Abuse of Emergency and Executive Powers: Declaring manufactured “emergencies” to bypass Congress and rule by decree.
Undermining Free and Fair Elections: Attempting to overturn election results, intimidate election officials, and sow distrust in the democratic process.
Collective Punishment of States and Cities: Retaliating against states and municipalities that refuse to comply with unconstitutional directives.
No president is above the law. When a president treats the Constitution as optional, democracy itself is at risk.
Authoritarianism Is Not American
The founders built a system designed to prevent exactly this concentration of power. Checks and balances, an independent judiciary, and civilian control of government are not inconveniences—they are safeguards. Trump’s repeated attacks on these guardrails are a direct rejection of American democracy in favor of personal rule.
This is not about party. It is about whether we remain a constitutional republic or slide into authoritarianism.
Dismantling ICE and Ending State-Sanctioned Terror
Immigration enforcement under Trump has been transformed into a tool of fear and political retribution.
ICE has been expanded beyond its original mandate and unleashed with no accountability, no training or vetting, just the arming of thugs who are used as attack dogs against Americans and immigrants alike.
Families have been separated, children kidnapped on their way to school, and asylum seekers treated as criminals.
Communities of color have been targeted to send political messages, not to promote public safety.
No democratic society should tolerate a federal agency that operates with impunity, terrorizes communities, and answers to political vendettas instead of the law.
Our Plan for ICE
Dismantle ICE as it currently exists.
Transfer legitimate immigration functions to agencies that operate transparently, humanely, and under strict constitutional oversight.
End mass detention and deportation as default policy.
Restore due process, humane treatment, and accountability in immigration enforcement.
Immigration policy should be rooted in human rights and the rule of law—not cruelty and intimidation.
Rebuilding Democratic Institutions
Stopping Trump is not enough. We must repair the damage and strengthen our democracy so this never happens again.
Reinforce the independence of the judiciary and ensure swift enforcement of court orders.
Protect whistleblowers, journalists, and public servants from political retaliation.
Restore congressional oversight and reassert limits on executive power. End the President’s power to unilaterally impose tariffs and remove the USA from world organizations, like the WHO, without Congressional approval
Pass robust voting rights protections to ensure every eligible voter can vote freely and safely.
Enact ethics reforms to prevent corruption and self-dealing at the highest levels of government.
The Moral Moment
History teaches us that democracy survives only when people are willing to defend it. Silence in the face of authoritarianism is complicity. Neutrality always favors the oppressor.
This moment demands courage—moral clarity, and a refusal to normalize the unacceptable.
Our Commitment
I will oppose Trump’s authoritarian agenda with every tool available. I will defend the Constitution, uphold the rule of law, and stand with those who refuse to be silenced. We will dismantle systems of abuse, restore democratic norms, and prove that American democracy is stronger than any one man.
This is not just a political fight. It is a fight for the future of our democracy.
